South Parade

Join us for a stroll around the pier and take in the glorious views over the Solent to the Isle of Wight.

At the very front of the pier is the Amusement Arcade, featuring games and activities for all the family, including

  • Bowlingo bowling alley, air hockey and pool tables

  • Over 18's All Cash Area

  • Video games including Dancing Stage, Sega Rally, Route 66 Truck Driver, Time Crisis 3, Prop Cycle, Crisis Zone and Star Wars

  • Pirates Cove Shooting Gallery

  • Family favourites such as 2p and 10p coin pushers, soft toy cranes and fruit machines

To the left of the arcade is Pips Ices, a traditional ice-cream shop where you can buy soft ice, candy floss, peppermint rock, sugar lollipops and a multitude of other seaside goodies including buckets and spades, inflatable, sweets and novelties.

To the right of the arcade is P&P News, newsagent and sweet shop selling daily papers and magazines, general groceries and ice-creams plus a wide range of crested souvenirs and traditional confectionary such as honeycombe, coconut ice, fudge, humbugs, sugar dummies and peppermint rock.

Walking down the left hand side of the pier you will then come to the pier's fishing shop. From here you can arrange to fish from the end of the pier, hire rods and buy fresh bait and fishing equipment.

Continue walking along the east deck and you will come to the Sea Chef Café, with both inside and outside seating areas. Sit outside for a shady spot under our umbrellas or pop inside for a seat in the café area and view our selection of archive pictures of the pier. You can enjoy traditional fish and chips or a wide selection of hot meals including hamburgers, hot dogs, English breakfasts and pies. The cafe also sells a range of ice-creams and drinks or cool down with an icy Slush Puppie.

Sea viewAs you walk further along the pier, you come to the Albert Bar, one of the two main function rooms on the Pier. This modern style bar opens daily throughout the summer months, and you can enjoy a refreshing drink from the full bar menu or enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. Relax and watch life go by over the Solent Waters and across to the Isle of Wight. This busy shipping lane holds a wealth of interest and you may often see ferries, naval ships, tankers, motorboats and yachts passing over the course of the day.

Leave the Albert Bar and walk out to the deck area and you will find the Children's Funfair, featuring a selection of rides for children of all ages to enjoy including swingboats, bouncy castle, canoe water ride, mini octopus and jumbo bouncy slide.

Walk on down to the end of the pier and you will find the Boat Deck, the wooden pier head, which is mostly used for fishing. From here, you will experience the glorious views across to the Isle of Wight and the best vantage point for all sea activity across the Solent.

Walking back down the pier on the west side, you will enjoy the view across the beach up to Southsea Castle. At the bottom you will find the entrance to the West Passage, a traditional styled pier walkway which evokes memories of the bygone age of piers. Visit the passage on Sundays and you can browse the Sunday Market, held between 10am and 5pm weekly and offering a selection of stalls including jewellery, collectables, children's clothing, glass wear, accessories, books and sweets.

The passage also leads to the biggest room on the Pier, The Gaiety Suite, a two-tiered room with beautiful Victorian elegance, featuring a large dance floor, wide stage area and large picture windows stretching the length of the west side with views along the seafront.
